French Hussars Colback Hat Napoleonic Cavalry Chasseur
The colback, or busby is a fur headpiece of Turkish origin. It was worn by officers and elite companies of hussars and chasseurs in the French army during the French Directory and the First French Empire, under Napoleon I. It often had a plume in front.
This French hussar colback hat is constructed from original sheep skin; brass chain hangs at the front with two hooks, at side and center. The inside of the hat is lined with felt at the sides and leather near its base.
